Present Continuous Tense atau biasa disebut juga sebagai Present Progressive Tense adalah aturan pembentukan kalimat yang digunakan untuk menyatakan kegiatan yang sedang berlangsung. Fungsi

Present Continuous Tense dapat digunakan untuk
  • menyatakan kegiatan yang sedang berlangsung → She is eating at the moment.
  • menyatakan rencana di masa depan (rencana sudah pasti) → She is going to a new school next semester.

Rumus

Berikut ini merupakan rumus atau pola kalimat dari present continuous tense Subject + am / are / is + verb1 + ing + complement Subject : I, you, we, they, she, he, it am → digunakan untuk subject I are → digunakan untuk subject you, we, they is → digunakan untuk subject she, he, it

Ada dua macam bentuk pertanyaan, yaitu

Interogatif Yes/No question

Untuk pertanyaan dengan jawaban ya/tidak, cukup letakkan am / are / is diikuti subject dan verb+ing di awal kalimat. Am / Are / Is + Subject + verb1 + ing + complement Subject : I, you, we, they, she, he, it am → digunakan untuk subject I are → digunakan untuk subject you, we, they is → digunakan untuk subject she, he, it
Interogatif Yes/No question

Interogatif W/H question

Untuk pertanyaan dengan jawaban ya/tidak, cukup letakkan W/H question sebelum am / are / is diikuti subject dan verb+ing di awal kalimat. W/H question + am / are / is + Subject + verb1 + ing Subject : I, you, we, they, she, he, it W/H question : What, Who, Where, When, Why, How am → digunakan untuk subject I are → digunakan untuk subject you, we, they is → digunakan untuk subject she, he, it

Berikut ini adalah contoh penggunaan kalimat Present Continuous Tense

Positif

Kalimat nya tidak mengandung kata not
  • She is taking a bath.
  • I am reading a book.
  • They are staying at a hotel.
  • My little brother is drawing a picture.
  • We are going to Bali.

Negatif

Kalimat ini mengandung kata not
  • I am not going to a new school.
  • She is not taking a picture.
  • They are not walking to the market.
  • My brother is not going to clean his room.
  • We are sending the letters.

Interogatif

Penggunaan dalam kalimat tanya. Terdapat kalimat tanya yes/no dan W/H, perhatikan penggunaan am, are, is pada masing-masing kalimat.

Yes/No Question

am, are, is berada pada awal kalimat diikuti subject dan verb+ing
  • Are you watching television?
  • Is she going to the shop?
  • Are the children playing volleyball?
  • Am I taking the right book?
  • Is my sister staying at your house?

W/H Question

am, are, is berada setelah W/H kemudian diikuti subject dan verb+ing
  • What are they doing here?
  • Where is your mother going?
  • Why are you taking my books?
  • Who are you talking to?
  • What are you eating?
