Possessive Pronouns

Possessive pronouns tidak dapat diletakkan mendahului kata benda utama, Possessive Pronouns digunakan untuk menggantikan kata benda benda tersebut dalam kalimat. Kata benda aslinya telah dipahami dari konteks kalimat dan tidak ditulis ulang lagi, tetapi digantikan oleh possessive pronouns.

Contoh:

• mine : my + noun; → my book
• yours : your + noun; → your pen
• hers : her + noun; → her dress

mine        ours yours       yours his hers         theirs its

Contoh dalam kalimat:

• This is my book. This is mine.
• Your teacher is the same teacher as his teacher. Yours is the same as his.
• Her dress is blue and my dress is pink. Hers is blue and mine is pink.
• I forgot my homework. I forgot mine.

Reflexive Pronouns

Reflexive pronouns biasanya terletak setelah verb / kata kerja dan mengindikasikan bahwa subjek dalam kalimat selain melakukan tindakan juga menerima tindakan. Berikut ini merupakan daftar reflexive pronouns.

myself         ourselves yourself       yourselves himself herself        themselves itself

Contoh dalam kalimat:

• I washed myself.
• She served herself in the cafetaria.
• They were talking among themselves.

Note:

• Pada bentuk jamak self berubah menjadi selves.
• reflexive pronoun biasanya dibentuk dengan menambahkan imbuhan ke possessive adjective.
• meskipun demikian, himself, itself, dan themselves, dibentuk dengan menambahkan imbuhan ke object pronouns.
• bentuk hisself dan theirselves selalu salah jika digunakan sesuai dengan grammar.

Reflexive Pronouns dapat juga digunakan untuk memberi penekanan, berarti subjek melakukan tindakannya sendiri. Pada hal ini biasanya reflexive pronouns langsung diletakkan setelah subjek.

Contoh:

• I myself believe that the proposal is good.
• Emily herself bought these gifts.

by + reflexive pronoun juga dapat bermakna sendiri.
