Definisi

Simple Present Tense adalah bentuk kalimat yang menunjukkan pernyataan umum atau fakta dan kegiatan rutin. Simak penjelasan dalam bentuk video 2 menit berikut

Kegunaan

Simple Present Tense digunakan untuk
  • menunjukkan pernyataan umum atau fakta Contoh Nama saya Joni →  My name is Joni
  • untuk menyatakan kegiatan atau aktivitas sehari-sehari yang selalu/rutin dilaksanakan. Contoh Saya pergi ke sekolah tiap hari → I go to school everyday
Keterangan waktu yang biasa digunakan pada simple present tense adalah everyday, always, on Sundays, etc.

Rumus

Ada dua macam bentuk kalimat, yaitu kalimat verbal (menggunakan kata kerja) dan kalimat nominal (bukan menggunakan kata kerja).  Keduanya memiliki rumus berbeda.

Rumus Simple Present Tense Kalimat Verbal

Subject + Verb 1(s/es) + Complement

Rumus Simple Present Tense Kalimat Verbal Contoh:
  • I go to school.
  • She goes to school.

Rumus Simple Present Tense Kalimat Nominal

Subject + am / are / is + Complement

Rumus Simple Present Tense Kalimat Nominal
Contoh:
  • She is beautiful.
  • I am strong.

  • negatif (menggunakan “not”)
  • interogatif (kalimat tanya).

Ciri utama adalah menggunakan do / does diikuti dengan not

Subject + do/does + not + Verb 1 + complement

Negatif : Verbal
Contoh:
  • I don’t go to school.
  • She doesn’t go to school.

Negatif : Nominal

Ciri utama adalah menggunakan am, are, is diikuti dengan not

Subject + am  / are / is  + not  + complement

Negatif : Nominal
Contoh:
  • She is not beautiful.
  • I am not strong.

Interogatif : Verbal

Yes/No Question

Untuk pertanyaan dengan jawaban ya/tidak, cukup letakkan do/does di awal kalimat.

Do / Does + subject + Verb 1 + complement

Interogatif : Verbal
Contoh:
  • Do you go to school?
  • Does she go to school?

W/H Question

Pertanyaan menggunakan What, Who, Where, When, Why, How, tambahkan do / does di belakangnya.

W/H   + do / does   + subject +   Verb 1 + complement

W/H Question
Contoh:
  • Where do you go?
  • Where does she go?

Interogatif : Nominal

Yes/No Question

Untuk pertanyaan dengan jawaban ya/tidak, cukup letakkan am / are / is di awal kalimat.

Am / Are  / Is + subject + complement

Interogatif : Nominal
Interogatif : Nominal

  • Am I beautiful?
  • Is he strong?

Interogatif W/H Question

Pertanyaan menggunakan What, Who, Where, When, Why, How, tambahkan am / are / is di belakangnya.

W/H   + am / are / is   + subject

Interogatif W/H Question
Contoh:
  • Where are you?
  • Where is she?

Contoh Kalimat

Berikut adalah contoh kalimat dari penggunaan simple present tense.

Verbal

Ingat rumus, kalimat verbal dilengkapi kata kerja. Perhatikan penggunaan imbuhan s atau es dalam kata kerjanya.
  • Emily goes to market every Sunday.
  • The children play volleyball every afternoon.
  • Ethan walks to school everyday.
  • They watch movie together.
  • Carl wakes up at 5 every morning.

Nominal

Ingat rumus, kalimat nominal tidak dilengkapi kata kerja sehingga menggunakan to be : am, are, is. Perhatikan penggunaan to be nya
  • It is cold today.
  • She is my English teacher.
  • Those children are not kind.
  • Emily’s cat is so cute.
  • Are you from England?

Positif

Kalimat yang tidak mengandung kata tidak / not
  • Water consists of hydrogen and oxygen.
  • I study English every night.
  • The world is round.
  • I have only  a dollar right now.
  • He needs a pen right now.

Negatif

Kalimat yang mengandung kata not. Perhatikan bahwa not bisa disingkat
  • I don’t study English every night.
  • I don’t have money right now.
  • He doesn’t need a pen right now.
  • He is not late.
  • He doesn’t eat sandwich.
  • She is not okay.

Interogatif

Penggunaan dalam kalimat tanya. Perhatikan kapan penggunaan do, does atau to be : am are is
  • Do you study for two hours every night?
  • Do you have money right now?
  • Does he need a pen right now?
  • Does he eat sandwich?
  • Do you recognize that man?
  • Are you okay?
  • Is it right?
  • Am I right?
