Past Perfect Tense Positif Negatif Interogatif

Dalam bahasa Inggris, dikenal suatu cara untuk mengindikasikan waktu ketika sedang berbicara. Cara yang didasarkan pada kata kerja atau verb ini disebut sebagai tense.

 

Ketika sekolah, guru bahasa Inggris mengajarkan 12 macam tenses. Dari sekian banyak tenses itu, salah satu tenses adalah past perfect tense.

Pengertian Past Perfect Tense

Past perfect tense berasal dari gabungan dua kata, yaitu past dan perfect. Past artinya masa lalu, sedangkan perfect yang diambil dari kata dalam bahasa Latin “perfectus“, yang berarti “selesai”.

 

Sesuai dengan namanya, past perfect tense adalah tense yang digunakan untuk mengatakan kejadian masa lalu yang dimulai dan selesai di masa lalu. 

 

Tense ini juga digunakan untuk mengekspresikan peristiwa masa lalu yang sudah selesai sebelum peristiwa lainnya di masa lalu.

 

Rumus atau Pola Past Perfect Tense

Setelah memahami pengertian dari past perfect tense, selanjutnya kita akan mempelajari rumus atau pola past perfect tense. Di bawah ini adalah rumusnya:

 

S (I/you/they/we/he/she/it) + had + past participle (V3) + Object   S (I/you/they/we/he/she/it) + had been + Adjective /Adverb /Noun

 

Pola atau rumus di atas berlaku untuk kalimat positif. Kalimat positif adalah kalimat yang tidak mengandung bentuk negatif (not) di dalamnya. Untuk kalimat negatif, tinggal diselipkan bentuk negatif sebelum past participle, seperti yang tertera di bawah ini:

 

S (I/you/they/we/he/she/it) + had + not/never + past participle (V3 )+ Object S (I/you/they/we/he/she/it) + had been + not +  Adjective /Adverb /Noun

 

Selain kedua rumus ini, terdapat pula rumus untuk kalimat interogatif. Kalimat interogatif adalah kalimat tanya. Untuk membentuk kalimat tanya dengan past perfect tense, maka Sobat YEC tinggal membalik posisinya saja, seperti yang ditunjukkan dalam rumus berikut:

 

Had + S (I/you/they/we/he/she/it) + past participle (V3) + Object Had + S (I/you/they/we/he/she/it) been + Adjective /Adverb /Noun

 

Oke, sekarang Sobat YEC sudah paham ya? Penanda past perfect tense dalam kalimat adalah auxiliary verb had dan past participle atau kata kerja bentuk ketiga (Verb 3). Past perfect tense berbeda dengan present perfect tense, yang menggunakan auxiliary verb have dan has.

   • He had not finished the pipe repair.
   • • • (Dia tidak menyelesaikan perbaikan pipa.)
     •  Aurellie had not sent her novel draft.
       • (Aurellie tidak mengirim draft novelnya.)
   • Mark and Johnson had not bought the sweaters for Christmas.
   • • • (Mark dan Johnson tidak membeli sweter untuk Natal.)
   • That kitten had been not ferocious.
   • • • (Anak kucing itu tidak garang.)
   • I had never seen such an almighty artwork!
   • • • (Aku belum pernah melihat karya seni yang begitu hebat!)
   • We had not tasted the soup broth but Mom has turned off the stove.
   • • • (Kami belum mencicipi kaldu supnya tapi Ibu sudah mematikan kompor.)
   • Father had not gone to the party when he was still young.
   • • (Ayah tidak datang ke pesta ketika dia masih muda.)
   •  Samantha had not arrived at the forum punctually.
     • (Samantha tidak tiba di forum dengan tepat waktu.)
   •  They had not finished their homework.
     • (Mereka tidak menyelesaikan pekerjaan rumah mereka.)
   •  They had not come back from war.
     • (Mereka tidak kembali dari perang.)
