Pengertian

To Infinitive merupakan bentuk kata kerja (to + Verb 1) yang difungsikan sebagai adjective, noun, dan adverb.

Ciri-Ciri

To Infinitive memiliki ciri sebagai berikut:

• bentuk : to + V1
• makna : verb
• fungsi : Adjective, Noun, Adverb
• verb : semua verb kecuali modal
• termasuk uncountable (tidak dapat dihitung)

Bentuk menurut Tenses

General Form

Bentuk umum tenses yang digunakan oleh to+v1 adalah Simple Present. Penggunaan to+v1 pada general form dibagi menjadi dua, yaitu

active

Pola : (+) To + V1
         (-) not to V1

contoh:

• To drink milk makes Emily healthy.
• Not to drink milk makes Emily weak.

passive

Pola : (+) To be + V3
         (-) not to be V3

contoh:

• To be accepted in a company makes Emily happy.
• Not to be accepted in a company makes Emily sad.

Perfect Form

Perfect Form atau bentuk Simple Past dapat digunakan jika to+v1 terjadi lebih dahulu daripada main verbnya.

active

Pola : (+) To + have  V3
          (-) not to have V3

contoh:

• To have drunk milk makes Emily healthy.
• Not to have drunk milk makes Emily weak.

passive

Pola : (+) To have been + V3
          (-) not to have been V3

contoh:

• To have been accepted in a company makes Emily happy.
• Not to have been accepted in a company makes Emily sad.

To infinitive phrase

Merupakan bentuk to infinitive yang didampingi oleh object atau modifier.

contoh: to be with you

to infinitive + object

contoh: to eat sandwich

to infinitive + object + modifier

contoh: to eat sandwich together
